For days now I’ve read email after email from international designers … have seen their posts on social media … and am trying to absorb it all. It’s a lot to take in.
With Needlework Marketplace around the corner there is a development that may (or may not we really don’t know) but may well impact our ability to get some of the designs from international designers. And if we can get them, prices could change. And then there’s the question about availability for reorders.
I don’t really know how the “de minimis trade loophole” end that goes into effect on August 29, 2025 will impact our little corner of the world. But I would be remiss if I didn’t put this on your radar.
Things are in a holding pattern as we maneuver through this. I don’t have any answers. Definitely lots of questions. Many designers are working with the show organizers to try to get their product into the U.S. before the 29th. The show organizers have taken on a huge job of organizing all this product and then shipping to the shops across the U.S. It’s an added step that will undoubtedly add delays to the receipt of our orders BUT a positive step in figuring out how the landscape in our industry is changing.
DISCLAIMER: Prices are subject to change based on what may be coming. The prices posted are as of right now. It is unclear what will change or if it will change. Designers and other creatives are as unsure as shop owners are.
All of this being said, I apologize for the uncertainty. I’ve debated on what to say and how to say it because there just is so much fogginess on what will happen or if it will happen and how it will look or change how we do business. I truly just do not know. But, I would be remiss if I didn’t put this out there. In the spirit of transparency, am sharing what I know which isn’t much. As we learn more about how this presidential executive order will impact our industry, I will share that with you. It is my hope that our corner of the world, (read leave our needlework supplies out of politics), will get by with minimal change. But I don’t know.
Know that I don’t post this lightly. I’ve debated with myself for days now. Not an alarmist. Just trying to give you a heads up. Here’s to hoping that this post is all for naught and there’s no change. That we will continue to have access to the fabulous designs, fabrics, accessories from those outside the U.S. That’s my hope. I hope this post can just be deleted at some point because August 29th came and went and nothing changed. Wouldn’t that be great?! Am crossing more than my stitches these days.
Will post more as I learn more.
