The words Native American (with emphasis on the capitalization of the N and A) on the sampler refer not to George’s lineage but rather to a group of Protestants. We believe that the motif immediately to the right of the words Native American is a harp, referring to the ‘Tune thy harp to praise’ stitched on the piece.
