“Of many threads this piece is made Like men together mixed
The thread of life is snapp’d and then Man’s doom is ever fixed.
The coulours of the silk do show The different degrees
One man is high another low But death takes which he please.
The threads and silk are crossed And so is life’s rough sea
The mariner is on it tossed And crossed about is he.
The piece of canvas first was white And so we all must be
And in Christs righteousness be dressed And from black sin be free.”
