INDUSTRY NEWS
TARIFFS: Yes, they are going to impact our industry just not 100% on how much or what products. I just received a specific yard of fabric, not a hand-dye, that was $77/yard when I ordered it a couple months ago and is now over $100. That’s a significant increase. :/

Now that Nashville is over for another year, have had many questions about why we don’t carry designs by Brenda Gervais. I don’t have a PC way to say it so here’s the straight scoop. I have tried to bring these designs in, but do not get a response to my many emails. She was in Nashville and my intent was to bring them home. However, before Nashville, I learned that Brenda is not interested in doing business with new shops. Even though I pay up front for all my orders, she only wants to do business with her existing accounts or those she knows. That being said, it is her business to sell to whom she chooses. There are so many fabulous designers out there that I have moved on. Unfortunately, I am not able to get these designs by the designer’s choice. I have never met her so cannot speak to anything other than it is her business choice. If these are a must-have for you, I recommend that you order from an established mail order or shop. I’m sorry that I cannot help you with these designs. And that’s the story. Nothing more to it than that. 🙂

Space is limited for each Club night, so registration is a must. A Wait List will be created if necessary. These should be so much fun and look forward to each one!

WHAT ELSE?
USPS Changes: Still no specifics just rhetoric that changes are coming. Slower deliveries for around 50% of all mail, but don’t quote me there. Until we have details, it’s really hard to say how this will impact the mail order side of our business as well as custom orders.

UPCOMING CLOSINGS
Sat. Apr. 19 – Sun., Apr. 20 (Easter)
Fri. May 16 – Sat. May 17 (daughter’s wedding)

REMINDER: Summer Hours kick in Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The only change is that we will be closed on Sundays effective May 25. We will reopen again on Sunday effective Sept. 7. Hard to believe it’s time for summer plans already. 😀

INDUSTRY NEWS
Weeks Dye Works #1173 Confederate Gray – They changed this to Gray. Not sure why. But now it’s back to Confederate Gray. You will find it listed both ways in designs. Just know #1173, whether listed as Gray or Confederate Gray is the same color.

Fabric: Am starting to see more price increases with our fabric. It’s all imported and with all that is going on with imported products, it was inevitable. Fabric comes from Zweigart in Germany and that’s what’s going up. Won’t speculate on anything else, but wouldn’t be surprised either.

Did you know that there’s a series of DMC floss numbers that have been retired? Below are the retired numbers, which you shouldn’t see in new charts but could in older ones, and their replacements –

NASHVILLE
If you haven’t had a chance to see some of the magnificent stuff that’s coming out, take a look –

2025 Nashville Needlework Market

Still time to preorder. In fact, if there’s something you want and I’ve already left for Nashville, you can let me know. My cell is 508-212-2940. Be sure to identify yourself so I know. Or you can go to our website (threadedneedle.org) and order there.

3 new colors of Classic Colorworks; 5 new colors of Weeks Dye Works. Gentle Art hasn’t said but they usually do, too. All coming home with me next week!

Will start notifying everyone with preorders (THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR TRUST AND FAITH) on Monday. You can come by any time once you’ve been notified. If I’m shipping to you, it will go out on Monday. The rest of the goodies will go out throughout the week culminating in our anniversary party!

It is so hard to believe that an entire year has gone by since we opened! Our 1-year anniversary is March 16. Words cannot express our thankfulness for each of you. We will have a weekend party starting Saturday, March 15 through Sunday, March 16. All Nashville goodies will be out. So much has been posted but there will be stuff that is a surprise as we don’t even know about it until we get there. Check Blackbird Designs. All we know is that there are 2 new designs. No idea what they look like but if you love her stuff, like I do, no picture necessary. lol

Regular hours on Saturday & Sunday.

Our first order of NEEDLEPOINT INC silk has arrived. The first batch anyway. It is a large thread line so will come in a little at a time. Let us know if there are colors you are looking for as we will bring those in before general stock.

We are also bringing in Caron Waterlilies.

WHAT ELSE?
Just read an article about big changes coming to the USPS. They swear that we won’t see much change, but I’m doubtful. Not sure when all the changes go into affect or what exactly it all means, but something we will be watching closely here.

TRUNK SHOWS

Upcoming Trunk Shows –

January – Little Robin Designs – such a lovely grouping of designs. This one is headed back to the designer in the next couple of days so come see it before it’s gone!

February – Cherry Blossoms – Sadly, this show isn’t going to happen as the models were never shipped to me. This was going to be a Valentine’s Day show for only a couple weeks. At this point there isn’t time to receive it and put it all up before it’s time to send it back. Will try to reschedule and hope it really happens this time.
March – Millennial Fabrics

THREADS & PAGES (aka Book Club :D)

Our first gathering of Book Club (it really needs a catchier name) was so much fun! A couple pictures to share –

And yes, that’s my book with all the post-its. That’s how I read, marking good stuff as I go. Leftover from my college days although back then it was a highlighter. 😀 The first book was Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Germus.

The next book we chose is –

Threads of Life by Clare Hunter. It’s a fascinating read of real life needlework and it’s history. I’ve posted a couple of things about it on Facebook. I find I have to read this while at a computer because my curiosity sends me researching what’s being referenced in the current chapter. It’s a slower read for me because I get sidetracked with my research. Next session Wednesday, February 12, 6:30-8:30PM. Registration (no fee) required. Homework other than reading the book (haha) is to come with a recommendation for the March session. Everyone brings an idea and we will choose that night.

SUNDAY STITCH NITES

There are a couple chairs available for the 2nd. If you haven’t registered, there’s still time! If there are cancellations, like the last one, it will be posted online via Instagram, Facebook and the website (threadedneedle.org).

Only one night in March because of Nashville and our 1-year anniversary. Lots going on that month. One night in May because that’s wedding month for our family as my daughter gets married in mid-May.

NASHVILLE
This trade show is a little over a month away and things are really ramping up. Get ready to start seeing all the new stuff as with the arrival of February, so begins all the mailings from the designers. Our Nashville collection can be found here –

2025 Nashville Needlework Market – Threaded Needle

Needlepoint Inc silk – If you have a wish list and would like to preorder, please get that to me no later than February 15 so that I can include it in my initial order. Preorders will be set aside for you as with any other preorder or custom order of  fabric and designs. 🙂

Preordering is easy – just send an email to alice@threadedneedle.org with what you’d like held for you.

Deadline to preorder this year’s cookbook is Saturday, February 15. Contains a plethora of recipes and 53, yep 53!, free designs from contributing designers. We sold out last year so if you want one and want to make sure you get one, preordering is the way to go.

WHAT ELSE?
January = Inventory When you come visit, be sure to check out the Tub o’Fabric and the sales bin. Tons of good stuff in both!

Shipping – We are trying not to raise our shipping prices and so tend to undercharge here. Every order that goes out, the shipping charge does not cover it because we put a tracker on everything. Once a package is at the post office, our ability to control its arrival is history. If we could hand-deliver each one, we would. Any shipping delays are on the post office vs. us although we take it personally when you don’t get your goodies as quickly as we’d like.

Between inventory, 2024 taxes, Nashville, our 1-year anniversary celebration and a family wedding there’s a lot going in here. I often hear folks say how things look different every time they come in! This place we are building together, and yes, you are an integral part of that, is a living thing. Ever-changing. Ever- growing. And for that, I cannot thank you enough. Your support of this shop and the community we are building is mind-blowing.

          Needle News Threaded Needle

INDUSTRY NEWS
A few months ago, I posted that the Kreiniks had retired and sold their business to Rainbow Gallery. Very interesting. We were assured that there wouldn’t be an interruption in product availability; however, that has not been the case. For most of December, my weekly orders were shorted and no blending filament or braid came in.

To stem my own frustration, I asked. If there’s an issue I want to be up front about it so we are all on the same page. Heard back and here’s the scoop – Kreinik threads will now appear in two formats – the traditional reels and and now cards just like the Rainbow Gallery thread line. Same product, just displayed in two ways. For me, I’ll get them in however I can. Am not gonna be choosy on cards or reels as bottomline, we want their fabulous threads for our needlework, not the cards and spools they come on. 😀 Sounds like it’s just a transitional production issue and should settle down in 2025. Thanks for all your patience while they shift their production.

1897 Schoolhouse Samplers has made a business decision to focus on building her needlework community in Canada, her home, vs. into the States. We do carry some of her samplers and will continue to do so until we can’t get them anymore.

Santa had his turn and now it’s yours! Time to check your stash and make your list of what you need for 2025! Or at least for January. 😀 Effective now through January 5th EVERYTHING in the shop (minus custom orders) is 25% or more off!

TRUNK SHOWS

Upcoming Trunk Shows –

January – Little Robin Designs
February – Cherry Blossoms
March – Millennial Fabrics

THREADS & PAGES (aka Book Club :D)

Here we go! First Book Club session is Wednesday, January 15 6:30-8:30PM at the shop. If you’ve already read it, come anyway and let’s talk! If you read it and hated it, let’s talk about that, too! It’s been a quick read and am almost done with it. Bring your stitching cuz we can multi-task by stitching and chatting about the book. Purchase your copy from your favorite bookstore. No fee to participate, but registration is required.

The next date will be Wednesday, Feb. 12, 6:30-8:30PM.

SUNDAY STITCH NITES
This event has been so popular and sooooooooooo much fun that we are adding a second night! Stitch Nites are now the first & third Sundays, for the most part. Life may change that up a bit, but that’s the plan.

Although there’s no fee, Registration is required to ensure we have space for all. Our next nite is Sunday, January 5. Please confirm with me that you’re attending if you haven’t already.

Had a question about the new night –

Q: Can we attend both or do we have to pick one per month?
A: You can attend any that work in your schedule. Love seeing you and think it’s awesome that folks want to come to both. Come to one or both! Either is fine.

Here are the dates for Sunday Stitch Nites through June 2025 —

Condolences

It is with heavy hearts that Hoffman Distributing Company, Inc.  announces that Chery Walker, of CW Designs and Graphs By Barbara And Chery passed away on December 7th, 2024.  Cheryl was a beloved mother, grandmother and cherished friend. She brought warmth and joy to all who knew her and filled our lives with love, laughter, and creativity. She turned her artistic passion, cross stitch, into a successful business for over 30 years. She leaves a lasting mark on this craft, and is widely recognized for her intricate and original designs and will be remembered for her contributions to the cross-stitch industry.

We offer our sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Cheryl’s estate has elected not to keep her businesses open.  As of December 30th, 2024 both CW Designs and Graphs By Barbara and Cheryl will be closed.  If you have models or just enjoy her patterns, this will be the last day to purchase her items.

Sincerely,
Hoffman Distributing Company, INC

28 ct. Vintage Blue Whisper Cashel — Discontinued

After trying to order this multiple times each month for months now, I finally received notice from Fleur de Paris about its availability. They are the sole U.S. distributor for this fabric and unfortunately it has been discontinued —

From the distributor —

Hi Alice,

I apologize that nobody explained this to you. Zweigart discontinued this color, and it is no longer available.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. As we are only the distributor, we cannot control what they decide to continue producing.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Fleur de Paris

Such a lovely color. It is still available in 32 ct. ~Alice

A Message from Teresa Kogut

For those waiting for her newest designs to arrive… myself included 😀 Received this email today and thought I’d share —

Hey friends,

Thank you for your order of our new Christmas releases. We appreciate your business.

If you received a confirmation email after you placed your order online, that means we got your order.

As you can imagine, we have a fat stack of orders and we are working through them as quickly as possible. We’re a small operation….just Kevin and Kyle work on packing and shipping because there’s no room for anyone else to work over there.

They do their best to fill the orders in the order they were received. When we have a new release it usually takes 2 weeks to work through them all. We started shipping Monday, November 18th so it’s only been a week and a day. With Thanksgiving only a couple of days away, it will take longer than 2 weeks this time.

We’re sorry but we can’t tell you where you are in the queue. We are getting many emails asking this question and we understand but we can’t possibly check for everyone who’s asking as it takes time away from getting the orders out the door.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

We wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving!

============================

Yes, I do have the confirmation email so all we can do is wait. It’s a bummer when something so wonderful is out there! Hope this helps. 🙂 ~Alice
