“Among needle, thread & bunting
My humble hands were worked
Among shadows I was bound
To duties I dare not shirk
Though life’s frail trace has dim’d
And much is lost to time’s decay
Though I know not what meanings
My work should yet convey
This emblem was first crafted
Within the rooms I dwelled
Promises & dreams I did stitch
Broad stripes with bright stars I did meld.”
